Life Whisperer Genetics AI shows robust performance at varying times and stages of embryo development
AI Healthcare company Presagen, in collaboration with Ovation Fertility (USA), Alpha Fertility (Malaysia), Wings Fertility (India) and IVF-Life (Europe), presented an international study on Life Whisperer at the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) 2023 Annual Meeting, June 2023 in Copenhagen.
Life Whisperer uses Artificial Intelligence to assess images of IVF patients’ embryos to evaluate their quality, in order to improve IVF outcomes. Life Whisperer uses two AI algorithms. Life Whisperer Viability AI assesses embryo images to evaluate how likely they are to lead to a pregnancy, and Life Whisperer Genetics AI non-invasively assesses embryo genetic integrity (euploidy) from morphology.
The study showed that Life Whisperer Genetics AI’s predictive ability for identifying euploidy was robust to varying stages of embryo development (blastocyst expansion grade) and time-points on day 5 of in vitro culture. It was also discovered that the time point that achieved greatest predictive ability was 120 hours post-fertilization.
These recent findings suggest that the AI is providing additional information regarding embryo genetic status over and above that provided by known morphological parameters. They also show that regardless of expansion grade, predictivity is optimized when embryos are assessed at the same time-point on day 5, preferably closer to the 120 hour time-point.
This study is important for the IVF and AI industries because it further validates the potential for AI imaging to provide a non-invasive, low cost, and instant assessment of embryo genetic integrity to support IVF treatment.
