New study shows that Artificial Intelligence can help women find good quality eggs to support IVF and egg freezing
AI Healthcare company Presagen, in collaboration with Ovation Fertility (USA) and California Fertility Partners (USA), presented a recent study of Life Whisperer at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) 2022 Scientific Congress, Oct 2022.

Life Whisperer has developed a new AI algorithm that was able to non-invasively assess the quality of a woman’s eggs, or oocytes, by assessing images of the egg. The AI was able to predict which eggs were likely to develop into a usable embryo for an existing or future IVF treatment.
This study suggests that, in the future, AI could potentially be used to help doctors and patients make better informed choices about additional IVF cycles and oocyte freezing, which is important given the high cost of these procedures and ongoing storage, and given the patients’ reliance on these frozen oocytes for future family building.
Other applications for the AI include informing the likelihood of success for donor eggs, selecting the highest quality eggs for fertilization, and, importantly, providing reassurance of the likelihood of IVF success to the patient.
The study also found that seemingly high-quality oocytes do not always develop into blastocysts, which suggests that other factors beyond oocyte quality are important contributors to embryo development, such as male infertility factors. Life Whisperer had previously developed its own unique patented algorithm that could identify these cases in a dataset used to train the AI, which was critical for ensuring that the AI performed accurately.
